River Swimming Information
Our location
The Sandy Lane Community Sauna sits beside the River Dee and the surrounding meadows. The setting offers beautiful views and fresh air, but it’s important to understand the local water safety guidance before entering the river.
River Swimming
While some people choose to swim in open water, river swimming is not advised at this location due to variable water quality and environmental conditions.
The River Dee is not a designated bathing site and water conditions can change quickly depending on:
• rainfall and river flow
• upstream agricultural runoff
• sewage overflow events
• seasonal changes in water quality
Because of these factors, we cannot recommend swimming in the river here.
Cold Water Options
For those wishing to experience cold exposure alongside sauna use, we provide dedicated cold plunge tanks on site.
These are maintained specifically for sauna users and provide a safe way to cool down between sauna rounds.
If You Choose to Enter the River
Some visitors may still choose to access the river independently. If you do, please be aware:
you enter the water entirely at your own risk
check current river conditions
avoid swimming after heavy rainfall
never swim alone
cold water shock is a real risk
you must shower with soap before revisiting our site
Please also be respectful of the natural environment and other park users.

Our Approach
The Sandy Lane sauna is intended as a place to enjoy the benefits of sauna and cold exposure in a safe and respectful way.
For this reason we encourage guests to use the on-site cold plunge facilities rather than entering the river.
