Our Community Sauna Locations
Sandy Lane Park
– 12-person wood-fired sauna
– Two cold plunge tanks & a cold shower
– Sunset views across the river and meadows
Our first public community sauna, set beside the River Dee and Chester Meadows.
Opening in January 2026, the Sandy Lane Park site offers a relaxed, welcoming space to experience sauna and cold immersion in nature. Alongside the sauna and plunge facilities, the site includes space to gather around the fire, with comfortable seating and all the practical essentials — including basic changing facilities, toilets and lockers.
You can book the site privately for your group, or join one of our regular community or event sessions. Sessions will run throughout the week and include a mix of silent sauna, ambient sauna, disco sauna, and female-only sessions — offering something for everyone, whether you’re new to sauna or a regular bather.
We’ll also host collaborative events at this site with local yoga, breathwork, and mindfulness practitioners, as well as other independent hospitality businesses.

Sandy Lane Park: Frequently Asked Questions
-
Sessions last 90 minutes, allowing you to cycle between hot and cold 3-5 times.
-
Unfortunately, at this stage, our insurance policy and our agreement with the council doesn’t permit under 18s to access the site and use the facilities.
We are aware this is common practice across Finland and much of Scandinavia, with very young children being allowed into saunas from an early age.
We hope we can allow this in future, after the 3 month pilot at Sandy Lane. -
A small changing tent will be available directly beside the sauna. Because we operate a mobile setup and keep a minimal site footprint, changing facilities are limited. Where possible, please arrive already wearing your swimsuit. If you need to change on site, consider bringing a dry robe to use while changing in case the tent is occupied.
-
The Council does not encourage swimming in the River Dee. If you choose to swim, it is at your own risk.
The Council recommends considering the potential hazards, including strong currents, boat traffic, and water quality issues.
We recommend using the SSRS Mobile Application for checking water quality on the day of your session if you do decide to go into the River Dee. Please also remember to shower before and after using the river — and before re-entering the sauna. -
If you have bought an advance pass, you will be able to redeem this and book a slot when our scheduling system goes live in the middle of January.
-
Nudity is not permitted at any point inside the sauna, cold plunge tanks or generally around the site. This includes during private hire sessions.
We appreciate this is standard practice in a lot of countries around the world — and is often deemed more hygienic and part of the culture — however we are unable to allow nudity on site. -
Yes, sauna goers will have access to the public toilets on site during operational hours.
-
The sauna is part of a three-month pilot project aimed at improving community wellbeing, supporting mental health, and encouraging outdoor activity during the winter months. It also helps the council explore innovative ways to use public spaces for health and tourism benefits.
-
No. The council will receive a contribution from us for site access during the trial period, which helps support greenspaces.
-
The sauna is a mobile unit with no permanent structures. It uses natural wood finishes to blend with surroundings, has low noise levels, and all waste is removed daily by supervising staff, and disposed of off site. Grey water waste is managed and disposed of using onsite drainage points, and a silent generator / rechargeable battery pack used as source of power. Staff will monitor litter in the parkland and undertake daily inspections of the immediate area.
-
No. The sauna is compact and designed to integrate visually with the environment. Placement has been carefully chosen to avoid obstructing paths or views and is sited away from the play area.
-
Yes, all vouchers purchased in the pre-launch sale will be valid after the sauna has relocated.

Safeguarding is a priority. The sauna will operate under strict guidelines to ensure safety for all users and the wider public:
• No unsupervised sessions will ever take place — a sauna host will always be on site
• The sauna area will be located away from the children's play area on the far end of the field
• All staff are trained in health and safety protocols.
• A comprehensive safeguarding and risk assessment will be completed before the trial begins.
• Public facilities remain open - The sauna does not restrict access to play areas or other amenities.
-
• Physical and mental health benefits through heat therapy and optional cold-water immersion.
• Inclusive pricing
• Opportunities for community connection and outdoor wellness activities like yoga and mindfulness
